A Neighborhood Park.
A Lasting Legacy.

Reed Park has served the Tarrytown community since 1954 — wild, peaceful, and unlike any other park in Austin.

What We Stand For

To restore, enhance, and maintain Reed Park while preserving its peaceful, natural character that makes it so special to our neighborhood.

Friends of Reed Park (FORP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit comprised of neighborhood volunteers organized through the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department and the Austin Parks Foundation Adopt-A-Park program.

About Reed Park

A 6.37-acre neighborhood park at 2614 Pecos St, Austin, TX 78703. The land was gifted to the City in 1953 by Mrs. Fagan Dickson, who asked it be named for her daughters Rebecca Reed and Lucy Reed.

  • One of Austin's oldest surviving industrial landmarks, built in 1871 and preserved right here in Reed Park.

  • A beloved neighborhood pool open for lap swimming and recreation, 3 to 8 feet deep, with regular seasonal hours.

  • A fully updated nature-inspired playscape, completed in March 2022, designed for kids of all ages.

  • A sweeping 240' × 130' recreational field — room for pickup games, picnics, and everything in between.

  • A natural creek running through the park, home to native plants and wildlife, and a focus of our restoration efforts.

  • Tree-lined trails connecting Reed Park to Scenic Drive — a quiet, shaded walk through one of Austin's most beautiful streets.

  • Picnic tables, benches, and Reed Park's iconic red chairs scattered throughout — the unofficial living room of Tarrytown.

About Reed Park

  • Reed Park is a neighborhood institution.

Generations of Austinites have made memories here—school field trips to the creek, soccer games on the playfield, birthday parties at the pavilion, and summer afternoons at the pool. Reed Park continues to be a place where neighbors of all ages gather for play, connection, and celebration.

  • The legacy of the park.

The land for Reed Park was gifted to the City of Austin in 1954 by Mrs. Fagan Dickson, honoring her daughters. What began as six acres of green space has grown into a community hub treasured by families throughout Tarrytown and beyond.

  • The hottest spot in Tarrytown since 1871.

Reed Park’s 6 acres hold something for everyone: a pool to cool off in, a shaded playground, a wide play field, winding Taylor Slough, and plenty of natural beauty. At its heart stands the historic Taylor Lime Kiln, built in 1871—a reminder of Austin’s early days and a landmark unique to our neighborhood. With so much to see and do, we encourage you to walk or bike and enjoy the park the way generations before us have.
